Rugby rivals ready to tackle finals series

South Australian rugby arch rivals Burnside and Old Collegians, along with top four finishers Port Adelaide and Brighton, will this weekend start their finals campaign to become the 2008 Premier Grade champions.

The 2008 Brice Finals Series gets underway at 11am tomorrow (September 6) at Bailey Reserve, Clarence Gardens, with a series of womens and grade finals, before the first Premier Grade semi final between top-placed Brighton and Old Collegians at 3.30pm.

The second semi will be played on Sunday, September 7, also at 3.30pm at Bailey Reserve, between Burnside and Port Adelaide.

SA Rugby chief executive Lachlan Clark, said the three week finals series provides the perfect opportunity for South Australians to get a taste of rugby union in their own backyard.

“There are thousands of South Australians who play rugby and thousands more who follow the game, but we know that rugby union is new to many and this finals series provides a great opportunity for families to come out and see what it’s all about,” he said.

“Club rugby has decades of tradition in South Australia and there is plenty of longstanding rivalry between our top teams.”

“The finals series will showcase the best of South Australian rugby talent and we encourage local sporting fans to get behind their local club over the next three weeks, and experience the excitement and athleticism of high quality rugby.”

The 2008 Brice Finals Series starts on Saturday, September 6 and Sunday September 7, with the Premier Grade semi finals taking place at 3.30pm each day at Bailey Reserve, Aldershot Street, Clarence Gardens.

Tickets, available at the gates, are $5 for adults and free for children under 16.
