Rugby season heats up with pre-season Cup final

The 2009 South Australian Rugby season gets into full swing tomorrow night with the final of the pre-season tournament, the Bartercard Cup, taking place on Brighton Oval.

Played under lights from 8.10pm, the Bartercard Cup Final sees last year’s premiers Brighton up against eastern suburbs rivals Burnside.

SA Rugby chief executive officer, Lachlan Clark, said Burnside have showed good signs in the pre-season tournament.

“Playing Brighton is always a tough ask but Burnside have showed really good signs so far this year, with an exciting back line under the guidance of new head coach Huw Bowen, formerly of Brighton.”

“The Cup Final will be an entertaining match and we encourage anyone keen to see some high quality rugby to head to the Brighton Oval tomorrow night,” he said.

The curtain-raiser Plate Final between Woodville and Elizabeth sees a much-improved Woodville taking on a side that has returned to the Premier Grade after a 6 year absence.

The Plate Final gets underway at 7.00pm and both matches are free for the public.

The SA Rugby Premiership Season gets underway on April 18.  The first round of Premier grade matches is Brighton v Port, Old Collegians v Onkaparinga, Elizabeth v Burnside, and Woodville v Southern Suburbs.
