Success for South Australia Rugby Referee

James Hagan, South Australia’s leading Rugby Referee has been selected by the Australian Rugby Union (ARU) to referee at the Australian Under 16 National Championships at Riverview College in Sydney from 03-10 October 2009.

On 6th June James refereed the South Australian Black Falcons playing the Darwin Mosquitoes, and two weeks ago, he refereed an international game between the Royal New Zealand Air Force (RNZAF) and the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF). In May, James refereed the Australian Army playing the Royal Australian Air Force at the Australian Services Rugby Championships in Canberra. James earlier refereed the curtain raiser for the Super 14 game in Sydney between the Waratahs and the Western Force in April.

In early 2008 James was selected by the ARU to participate in special development program for ‘emerging’ referees and this has exposed him to a number of games interstate, including mentoring support from leading referee coaches. SA Rugby benefits from James’ expertise through his role as the Referee Development Officer (RDO) for the SA Rugby Union Referees Association including a leading role in running training sessions for SA referees and touch judges.
