Vodafone Adelaide Black Falcons vs Melbourne Axemen Match Review

The Vodafone Adelaide Black Falcons showed great courage in their 26-34 loss to Melbourne at Etihad Stadium on Saturday. After conceding three early tries the Falcons showed tremendous fight to challenge the Axemen. Melbourne scored the winning try with just five minutes remaining after a charge down.

The Axemen, with the benefit of seven games this season compared with the Black Falcons’ two, were on song early as they threatened to blow the game apart with three early tries.

The Falcons however refused to back down and stood up to the Axemen with superior structures and a desire to throw the ball wide. Woodville’s Matt Connor and mates Geoff Bracken and Nigel Lamsam provided a great combination in the back row while winger Inosi Tukana produced his usual powerful bursts with the ball.

After trailing 3-17 early, the Falcons fought back to grab the lead in the second half with an attractive brand of rugby before the Axemen sealed the win with the charge-down try.
