Onkaparinga vs Burnside

The rejuvenated Onkaparinga Premier Grade side took on Burnside in the second round of the Coopers Premiership at Wilfred Taylor Reserve on Saturday afternoon. Onkaparinga have been bolstered this season with the return of Troy and Tyson Doughty, who have been playing interstate and overseas.
The Onkaparinga forward pack showed their dominance in the first twenty minutes of the game camping in the Burnside twenty two, which eventually lead to three penalties kicked by Troy Doughty, taking Onkaparinga to a nine nil lead.
The pressure continued with two unanswered tries by Onkaparinga before Burnside crossed the try-line late in the first half.
Onkas went into half time with a lead of 24 to 10. In the second half Burnside scored a try under the posts following some elusive running and numerous of phases of outstanding play. Then followed a free flowing period where both sides threw the ball around, moving play from one end of the field to the other in an entertaining display of high quality Rugby. Onkaparinga scored again, and the score at the full-time whistle was Onkaparinga 32 defeating Burnside 22.
Outstanding players for Onkaparinga included the Doughty brothers, Reneta Pahau and Captain George Taka who led from the front all game. For Burnside, Ben Fears and Mika Taufaao were both in excellent form. Onkaparinga were deserved winners of this week’s Aqa Oysters Match of the Round and the result leaves both teams with a win and a loss, two rounds into the Coopers Premiership.
Other results from this weekend’s Coopers Premiership fixtures were Southern Suburbs 42 defeating Port Adelaide 19 at Riverside Oval and Brighton too good for Old Collegians at Tregenza Oval, winning 43-7.
