SA Rugby Finals Series Starts This Weekend
The State’s Rugby Union semi finals kick off this weekend, September 4 and 5 with two jam packed days of Rugby.
Semi finals for all grades will be played throughout the day from Under 12’s all the way through to Coopers Premier Grade.
The match’s will be played across two pitches from 8:30am to 5:00pm at Southern Suburbs Rugby Union Football Club, Bailey Reserve, Clarence Gardens.
One Coopers Premier Grade semi-final will be played on each day at 3:30pm to finish off each day of competition.
Saturday’s Coopers Premier Grade match should be a tough contest between minor premiers Brighton and second placed Onkaparinga. Onkaparinga beat Brighton in their first encounter this year but with Brighton winning the return match later in the season, this Semi-Final should be the highlight match of the weekend.
The other Coopers Premier Grade match on Sunday is between third placed Old Collegians and fourth placed Burnside.
The Old Collegians have the wood over Burnside with two wins and zero losses, although their last encounter in the final round was a close affair, only winning by six.
The winner of Saturday’s match between Brighton and Onkaparinga will go straight through to the Grand Final to be played on Saturday 18 September, giving the victors a crucial one week break.
The losing team will play the winners of Sunday’s match between Old Collegians and Burnside the following Saturday, while the losing team of that match will be eliminated.
The Junior’s matches over the weekend are a knockout affair, with the winner from each Semi-Final going straight through to the Junior Grand Final next week.
Both Onkaparinga and Burnside have great hope of winning at least one trophy over the coming weeks with Onkaparinga having teams in all junior grade finals and Burnside having teams in all junior and senior grade finals.
Tickets to the semi-finals can be purchased at the gate. Adults are $5, children under 16 are free. For the complete draw of all matches in the SA Rugby Finals Series and more information on Rugby in SA, http://www.sarugby.com.au/2010_Finals_Schedule.html
